Skiing Soll

There?s sufficient skiing on Söll?s own slopes to keep less-experienced visitors happy for days, but few can resist the exciting prospect of being able to venture over the hills and far away. But beware ? unlike Saalbach-Hinterglemm, there?s no linking bus service to rescue you if you stray too far or get lost. So finding your way back to Söll (or whichever village you are based in) is imperative.

For the first-time visitor, Austria?s Ski-Welt region has an almost bewildering choice of nine different villages, all but one linked. Söll, the best known and most important, provides the gateway to an exceptional circuit in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps - claimed to be the largest of its kind in Austria. For anyone who has never enjoyed the experience of moving from one village to another on skis, Söll and its neighbours in the delightfully user-friendly Ski-Welt Wilde Kaiser circuit - the villages of Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Scheffau, Itter, Hopfgarten, Kelchsau and Westendorf (not linked) ? provide a truly memorable day out. Another unlinked village, Kelchsau, can also be skied on the same lift ticket. When visiting the seven which are linked, it can be bewildering to find your way home: the signposting leaves a lot to be desired, and if you get lost late in the day you may be faced with an expesnive taxi ride home. There are currently attempts to improve this situation.
