At 1,560m Davos is one of the highest Alpine resort in Europe. It is a
vast network stretching from the Rinerhorn south west of Davos to
Pischa in the north east. The Rega ski pass also covers Klosters? ski
areas of Gotschna and Madrissa. On first glance the piste map may
imply this is largely an intermediate?s resort but don?t be fooled,
this area has huge off-piste potential.

Davos extends for several miles along the broad Landwasser River
Valley. The two main centres of Davos Dorf and Davos Platz are about one mile apart
with a jumble of office blocks, residential apartments, hotels,
expensive shops, tearooms and casinos in between. Although the town is
not pretty, the mountain setting is spectacular and there is a lot going
on besides ski tourism. The World economic forum is held here annually,
as well as the Nordic World Championships, the pro ice hockey Spengler
Cup and the UK parliamentary ski races. It also boasts the world famous
Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research.
On the wider
picture, Davos keeps good company. Alongside resorts such as Zermatt,
St Anton and St Moritz, Davos is a member of ?The best of the Alps?. It
also claims Aspen in Colorado and Chamonix in France as ?partner?
towns.
