Obergurgl & Hochgurgl Ski Schools
In Obergurgl there are 120 instructors, including some from New Zealand and Australia. All instructors now have to pass a written test as well as a practical exam on their technique, which is a help for young children and families. There are also 20 mountain guides for off-piste and other winter activities including off-piste skiing, ski touring and snowshoe hiking. In Hochgurgl, the ski school has around 30 instructors all of whom speak good English.
Ski Lessons run Monday to Friday from 10:00-12:00 a.m. and 1.30-3.30 p.m. Multiple day ski lesson courses can be started on any day, though for beginners in Obergurgl group beginner courses start only on Sunday and Monday and in Hochgurgl on Sunday.
For children in Obergurgl there are two ‘Bobo’ mini clubs, the accent being on fun, which caters for 3year olds and offers two hour lessons per day Sunday-Friday 10:00-12:00 or 13.30-15.30 Helmets are loaned free.
For children from 4 years who are beginners, the Bobo club (close to the Wiesental Hotel) has four hours of lessons per day. Lunch is also available for children if parents want a break, and helmets, which can be rented from ski shops, are mandatory.
In addition to the main ski schools in each village, there are a number of smaller specialist ski schools. The Exclusive Ski School Obergurgl offers lessons in carving, powder skiing, snowshoeing and ski touring. The Ski School Alpinsport in Obergurgl specialises in family ski lessons with one ski teacher for the whole family. The Tyrolean Ski School “Swal” teach the method Scheiber as well as private ski and snowboarding lessons, ski touring and winter hiking.
