Mountain Guides in Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna

Many of the ski schools have professional Alpine Guides among their staff and guides can be booked through most ski school offices. Additionally, there are several specialist guiding organizations offering to guide off-piste, free-ride, ski touring and heli-ski itineraries.  Guides can provide you with the necessary safety equipment, including harnesses for glacier itineraries, avalanche beacons, shovels and probes, and several ski shops hire skis with skins and touring bindings for off-piste itineraries that involve significant uphill ascents.

There is an excellent choice of guides, and each guide should be able to select a broad range of runs suited to your skiing ability and fitness level. For instance, these are some of the shorter off-piste routes (none of them takes more than half a day and some are less than 30 minutes) that the Società delle Guide di Gressoney can show you from just the Passo Salati and Punta Indren lifts: Vallone d’Olen, Canale Grande, Salza, Zube, Vallon D’Ottro, Bors glacier and Sotto i Piloni.

A guide will also do much more than show you exciting routes. They will help keep you safe, advise on and if necessary provide the right equipment (some of the longer routes require skins and touring ski bindings and some of the toughest require ropes and harnesses as well), find the best snow, pass on useful tips to improve your off-piste skiing technique, and teach you about the mountains and the communities which live among them.

When conditions are right in the spring and summer, the guides can also arrange for you to stay in the high mountain refuges and take you on combined mountaineering and skiing itineraries (climb up-ski down) around the 4000m peaks. For details, contact theSocietà delle Guide di Gressoney.
