Ski Schools & Guiding

La Grave

Mountain guides who can help freeriders, ski tourers and off-piste skiers navigate La Grave’s often treacherous slopes can be hired through the Bureau des Guides in the village or the ESF office in nearby Le Chazelet, which is where normal piste skiing instruction takes place and the ski school meets. Guides from Les Deux Alpes also cover La Grave.

ESF La Grave La Meije

The La Grave-La Meije branch of the Ecole du Ski Francais (ESF) is actually in nearby Le Chazelet (see below) but it can also provide off-piste mountain guiding and introduction to freeriding courses.

La Grave/Le Chazelet Ski Schools and Private Instructors

Apart from one blue piste at the very top of its ski area, all of la Grave’s terrain is ungroomed and unpatrolled making it unsuitable for normal ski school instruction. However there is a separate predominantly small and south-facing pisted ski area at nearby Le Chazelet, less than 15 minutes drive away from La Grave. And this is where the ESF La Grave office is.

Les Deux Alpes Ski Schools and Mountain Guides

La Grave’s ski area is also accessible from Les Deux Alpes, and in general we would advise that mixed-ability parties and groups with both piste skiers and off-piste skiers, should stay there rather than in La Grave. The Ultimate-Ski guide to Les Deux Alpes includes details of where to stay and ski schools, private instructors and mountain guides.
