Getting to Les Menuires

Les Menuires is located in the 3 Valleys ski area and there are plenty of options to get you there. Transfers to and from Geneva airport and other airports are easily arranged. There is also an international railway station at Moutiers within 45 minutes’ drive.

Nearest Airports to Les Menuires

Les Menuires can be easily accessed from four airports within two and a half hours’ drive:

Chambery Airport: 112km, about 1 hour 30 mins drive
Geneva Airport: 193km, about 2 hours 25 mins drive
Grenoble-Isere Airport: 185km, about 2 hours 15 mins drive
Lyon St Exupery Airport: 190km, about 2 hours, 20 mins drive

Chambery and Grenoble are the nearest airports but have the fewest international flights. Geneva airport and to a lesser extent Lyon St Exupery are the main gateways. Milan airport is also just about within range (374km, 4 hours and 30 mins drive time).

Airport transfers to Les Menuires

You’re unlikely to use  a car in the resort, and parking can be expensive. Bus Services from Nearest Airports to Val Thorens

There is also a public bus service between Les Menuires and Geneva, Chambery and Lyons airports provided by AltiBus. To/from Geneva there are normally three buses a day on weekdays, up to seven on Saturdays and up to four on Sundays. The journey takes about three and a half hours, including a stop in Moutiers where you often have to change buses. Between Les Menuires and Chambery Airport there are usually between two and four buses a day on a Saturday, one on Sunday and none on weekdays. The journey takes between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the length of the stop at Moutiers. Between Les Menuires and Lyons Saint Exupery airport there are usually 2 buses a day on Saturday and 1 on Fridays and Sundays – journey time is about three and a half. You are strongly advised to buy tickets in advance because if the bus is full they won’t let you on. 

Getting to Les Menuires by Rail via Moutiers

The nearest railway station to Les Menuires is Moutiers, about 29kms away (40 mins by taxi). On railway timetables, Moutiers station is also sometimes called Moutiers-Salins-Brides Les Bains.

Eurostar and TGV Train Services to Moutiers

Trains from Paris for Moutiers depart from the Gare de Lyon and normally take between four and six hours. There are direct trains from Paris and also indirect services which usually involve taking a TGV to Chambery, Aix Les Bains or Lyon, then completing the journey onto Moutiers on either a regional TER train service or a bus.

From the UK, Eurostar operates services to Moutiers from London St Pancras, which takes between seven and a half hours and ten hours. There are some direct trains with no changes, but these can take longer than services with one change in Paris, which necessitates getting from the Gare du Nord to the Gare de Lyon. If you take the Metro this is just two stops on RER line D (Direction Melun). Even allowing time to buy tickets and walk to and from platforms, this should not take more than 30 to 40 minutes. But if you have a lot of baggage, a taxi ride might be a better option. 

There are also international Thalys train services direct from Belgium and the Netherlands to Moutiers. From Southern and Eastern Europe, services from Geneva and Milan go via Chambery.

Getting to Les Menuires from Moutiers train station

To get from Moutiers station to Les Menuires, the quickest way is by taxi / private transfer which will wait for your train to arrive. These can be booked online in advance with Ski-Lifts. Ski-Lifts also has a 24/7 English language helpline which can be useful if things don’t go exactly according to plan. The 28km ride up to Les Menuires takes about 45 minutes door to door.

There is also a public bus service. During the ski season  there are up to 9 buses a day on Saturdays and 3 on other days: see www.mobisavoie.fr (look for the T3 line) and www.altibus.com for bus times.

Driving to Les Menuires

Les Menuires is less than 30km from Moutiers, and is easily reached via the A430 motorway to Albertville, then the D117  to Les Menuires. From Calais it is about 960km by the fastest route (usually the A26 but the A6 is an alternative). It takes between 9 and 10 hours in normal conditions.
