Getting to Courchevel

Courchevel is easy to get to by air, with two to three hour transfers from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble or Chambery airports, or by high-speed train to Moutiers, just 24km from Courchevel. Courchevel is situated in the Les Allues valley and the nearest town, Moutiers, is 24km away and has an international train station with regular services from London and other European cities including Paris and Geneva. 

Nearest Airports to Courchevel

Geneva and Lyon are the nearest large international airports to Courchevel. Chambery and Grenoble airports are closer, but there are fewer flights and transfer options.

Better still, if you can afford it, Courchevel has its own ‘altiport’ for light aircraft and small private jets – it’s the highest asphalted runway in Europe at an altitude of 2,010m (6,853 feet) and is located just above Courchevel 1850. But if your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far (or you want to arrange transport for your staff), there are other convenient ways to get to the various Courchevel villages.

Airport Car Hire / Car Rental 

Having a car is useful, particularly if you’re staying for less than a full week, or you want to visit other ski areas (Champagny en Vanoise, the backdoor into La Plagne and Les Arcs, is less than 30 minutes’ drive from the lower Courchevel villages) or if you are flying into one of the smaller airports with fewer transfer options.

Public Bus Services from Nearest Airports to Courchevel

Altibus (www.altibus.com) provides bus services from the airports of Geneva, Lyon and Chambery. The Chambery service only runs on certain days – usually Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but check with Altibus.

There are a few buses and shuttles from Grenoble Airport, but some require you to change at the bus station in the centre of Grenoble and/or at Moutiers.  See https://www.grenoble-airport.com for details.

Getting to Courchevel by Rail

The nearest railway station to Courchevel is Moutiers (“Moutiers-Salins-Brides Les Bains”), about 25 km away. 

Trains from Paris for Moutiers depart from the Gare de Lyon and normally take between four and six hours. There are direct trains from Paris, and indirect services that usually involve taking a TGV to Chambery, Aix-les-Bains, or Lyon, then completing the journey to Moutiers on either a regional TER train service or a bus.

From the UK, Eurostar operates services to Moutiers from London St Pancras, which takes between seven and a half hours and ten hours. There are some direct trains with no changes, but they can take longer than services with one change in Paris, which requires transferring from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. If you take the Metro, this is just two stops on RER line D (Direction Melun). Even allowing time to buy tickets and walk to and from platforms, this should not take more than 30 to 40 minutes. But if you have a lot of baggage, a taxi ride might be a better option. 

There are also international Thalys train services direct from Belgium and the Netherlands to Moutiers. From Southern and Eastern Europe, services from Geneva and Milan go via Chambery.

Getting from Moutiers train station to Courchevel

To get from Moutiers station to Courchevel, there are several buses a day – see www.mobisavoie.fr for bus times. Alternatively you can arrange a private transfer through Ski-Lifts. The 25km-30 km journey takes about 35-60 minutes door-to-door.
