Accommodation in Telluride

Accommodation options in upscale Telluride range from The Peaks Resort, with its own health spa, outdoor pool and indoor climbing wall, to off the beaten path rustic lodges.

Telluride Ski Resort is quite upscale, with the emphasis on luxurious lodgings, but there are also basic hotels for the budget-conscious traveler and a wide variety of condos and bed & breakfasts. Between the town of Telluride and the Mountain Village there are approximately 16 hotels and a bed base of 5,200 pillows, so plenty to choose from. But one primary question you must ask before coming here is whether you prefer being in the middle of all the action or whether you crave solitude, because the houses, rustic lodges, and guest ranches are more off the beaten path (one is reachable only by snowmobile), forcing you to travel some distance.

Accommodation in the town of Telluride

If you’re looking for a more authentic Colorado experience, choose one of the many lodging options in the town of Telluride. Here, narrow streets and smaller boutique hotels are the norm. We highly recommend the River Club (http://www.theriverclub.com). Rarely have we come across a property we liked more. Located on the banks of the San Miguel River only two blocks from the gondola, the River Club is civilized elegance with a laid back atmosphere. The Club’s emphasis on hands off, “if there if you need anything, just ask” customer service is refreshing, particularly nowadays, where many resorts equate “good service” with a maddeningly frenetic buzz of activity that really inhibits relaxation. And speaking of relaxation, the River Club’s all stone slab hot tub (replete with waterfall and views of the San Miguel and the slopes) get our nod as the “top tub” in ski country. Throw in a reliable all night shuttle to whisk you to and from your posh and spacious unit and you have one of the all around best properties in the Rockies – truly a hidden gem.
