Accommodation in Via Lattea

The Via Lattea resorts of Montgenevre, Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Claviere, Pragelato, San Sicario and Cesana Torinese offer a wide selection of hotels, self-catering and chalet and good value compared to other high-altitude ski resorts. Also a large Club Med in Pragelato.

Hotels & Apartments in Sestriere

The 4-star Principi di Piemonte Sestriere is ski-in, and ski-out. Other highlights and features include two restaurants managed by a Michelin-star chef and an indoor pool, a fitness centre, a hot tub and a Turkish bath.

Hotel Shackleton Mountain Resort has a striking design which divides opinions on whether it is beautiful or ugly. The hotel is undeniably well-located, however, at the bottom of the Monte Fraiteve slopes and within 150m of the ski lifts. It has wellness and fitness facilities. Nearby is the 4-star Grand Hotel Sestriere which has an impressive spa and the 3-star Hotel Sud Ovest.

Hotel Fraitevino is a smart bed and breakfast hotel offering a good standard of accommodation in the resort centre and close to the public swimming pool.

Hotel Cristallo is a stylish 4-star hotel right opposite the ski area, but it’s worth paying a supplement for a room with a view, as the rear of the hotel faces a wall.

The 3-star Hotel Savoy Edelweiss is also popular and central.

The Villaggio Olimpico ApartHotel (Olympic Village), just across the road from the Fraiteve gondola, offers reasonably priced ski-in, ski-out, self-catered apartments in a modern complex with children’s entertainment and plenty of wellness and leisure facilities such as an indoor pool.

The 3-star Hotel Sciatori is set in the old Borgata area on the north-western edge of the resort but is only a 5-minute walk from the Via ski lift. It has a wellness area equipped with a sauna, steam bath, and sensory showers. Nearby is the 3-star Hotel Banchetta.

Sauze d’Oulx Hotels and Apartments

The 4-star Besson Grand Hotel in Sauze d’Oulx is a high-quality hotel, close to the old village, but also convenient for the Sportinia lift.

The 4-star Relais Des Alpes is also located in the centre of Sauze d’Oulx, about 250 yards from the ski lifts. It has a wellness centre with a jacuzzi and sauna.

The 3-star hotels with the highest satisfaction ratings from previous guests include the Du Parc Hotel, Hotel K2, Gran Bita and the Serendipity Hotel.

The conveniently located 2-star Hotel Assietta and the 2-star Hotel Gran Trun both regularly get good reviews. And there are dozens of apartments to choose from, particularly in the adjoining hamlet of Jouvenceaux.

Montgenevre Hotels and Apartments

Montgenevre used to be known for its budget hotels/B&Bs like the 2 star Alpis Cottia, and its good value but basic (and sometimes small) self catering apartments. But now there are more hotels with spas and saunas like the ski-in ski out  Anova Hotel & Spa which has an indoor pool or the luxury B&B Chalet Le Pot de Miel which is also ski-in, ski-out and has a sauna.  Chalet Saint Bernard is more basic but it is slopeside and just 100 yards from the ski lifts. The Grand Hotel is about 300m from the lifts. In truth, it’s not very grand but it is a perfectly adequate 3 star hotel. Much more luxurious are the top of the range apartment and ‘aparthotel’ complexes such as the CGH Residence Napoleon and the MMV Le Hameau des Airelles which both have spas with swimming pools and sauna etc). Bit there are more basic apartments as well.

Claviere Hotels and Apartments

Claviere, between Montgenevre and the larger Italian resorts, is in a good location for exploring the entire Via Lattea / Milky Way. The Hotel Bes & Spa is the best hotel in town, offering good 4-star accommodation, plus a wellness centre, in a splendid location, just across the road from the ski school area and ski lifts. Snapping at its heals are some highly rated 3-star hotels such as Hotel Pian del Sole, Hotel Piccolo Chalet , Hotel Al Foiron – all of which can normally be reached directly from the slopes on skis. Hotel Clari, also 3-stars, is not quite as conveniently sited but it has a nice wellness centre. keen skiers however might prefer the ungraded Rifugio La Capanna which is up the mountain near the Nuova Coche lift. It’s comfortable but don’t expect too many luxuries or any nightlife! The al Ghirot Bed & Breakfast also has its fans and can be reached on skis from the piste. Apartment accommodation in Claviere is limited and gets booked up quickly, so use the link below to find it.

Cesana Torinese and San Sicario Hotels and Apartments

Cesana and San Sicario are very close to the centre of the Via Lattea ski area. The 4-star Sansicario Majestic has a wellness centre with a heated indoor pool, 3 hot tubs, 3 saunas, a Turkish bath, relaxation area and sensory showers. It is about 400m from the ski lifts but it has its own shuttle. Hotel Chaberton, and Club Hotel Solaris are two decent 3 star hotels. Smaller and more quirkier are the 2 star Hotel Chalet Casa Cesana (ski to the door) and the guesthouse Alice Affittacamere which is close to the central Piazza Vittorio Amedeo square.
