Belleayre
One of Belleayre’s weaknesses is a lack of nearby lodging. There is no ski in/ski out lodging at Belleayre – no condos, no hotels and no vacation homes. The best lodging nearby is the Emerson Resort, between the ski area and I-87, about 15 minutes from Belleayre.
No factor has conspired more against Belleayre’s growth and popularity with in the New York City market than a lack of lodging. Belleayre is located in the middle of the state-owned Catskill Park. The bulk of land around the resort is designated as “Forever Wild,” foreclosing the opportunity for development. Consequently, there is no ski in/ski out lodging at Belleayre – no condos, no hotels and no vacation homes. Of course, there are many that would argue that this natural experience is part of Belleayre’s charm.
Plans are underway for the development of the Belleayre Resort, which would dramatically alter the profile of the resort. Hundreds of condos, two hotels, a golf course and an expansion to the ski area are all planned. In the meantime, however, the best nearby lodging is the Emerson Resort. Emerson is about 15 minutes from the resort between the ski area and I-87.
