Courmayeur offers a wide range of hotels and apartments near the centre of town. Accommodation is also available in the suburbs of Dolonne, Entreves and La Palud, which can have quicker access to the slopes.
Where to stay in Courmayeur
Most of the hotels and apartments are in the centre of Courmayeur or just to the north of it. This is a pretty part of town, with lots of nice bars, restaurants and shops, but no ski lifts. Some of the smarter hotels provide courtesy shuttle buses to take their guests to and from the lifts; others depend on the ski bus service which is reasonably efficient. Or skiers simply walk to the Dolonne bubble or the Courmayeur cable car; one of them should be within 15 minutes walk, and there is no need to walk in ski boots because there are ski rental shops and storage facilities at the base stations and up the mountain.
If being next to a lift is very important, you should consider staying in the southern end of town because that is where the Courmayeur Cable Car, the resort’s main lift, departs from. Continuing southwards beyond the lift, is the suburb of Verrand where apartments and hotels tend to be a bit cheaper.
The suburb of Dolonne, on the resort’s western edge, has its own lift – the Telecabina Dolonne. Some of the accommodation here can be skied down to at the end of the day in good snow conditions. For true ski-in, ski-out accommodation there is also one hotel up the mountain near the ski school meeting point at Plan Checrouit, the Super G.
Entreves and La Palud are two outlying suburbs about 3km to the north of the centre of Courmayeaur, and 10 to 15 minutes away on the ski-bus. On the western edge of Entreves is the Val Veny lift which gives access to the main Courmayeur ski area via the Pre de Pascal sector; and about 500m away, on the border of Entreves and La Pallud, is the Monte Bianco Skyway which accesses the separate off-piste skiing at Punta Helbronner. This lift makes Entreves and La Palud popular with freeride enthusiasts, but both villages are much quieter at night than Courmayeur.
Courmayeur and Verrand
The 5-star Grand Hotel Royal E Golf is about 350m from the Courmayeur cable car, although it has a free ski bus if you don’t fancy the walk. Inside the hotel has a sauna, Turkish bath and gym, whilst outside it has a heated pool which stays open in winter.
Grand Hotel Courmayeur Mont Blanc (5-star) is slightly nearer the centre of the resort and further from the Courmayeur cable car. It has a ski bus that takes visitors to both this lift and the one at Dolonne. It too has a spa, wellness and fitness centre but its swimming pool is inside.
The other 5-star, Le Massif, is close to the Courmayeur cable car (within 200m). It too has a spa but no swimming pool.
The 4 star Cresta et Duc offers excellent accommodation, food and service in central Courmayeur, about 250m from the cable car. Heading northwards, the 4-star Hotel Lo Scoiattolo is about 15 minutes’ walk from both the centre of town and the Dolonne lift. Not too far away is the exceptionally highly rated Villa Novecento Romantic Hotel , a 4-star boutique hotel with fitness centre. It’s not particularly close to the lifts so provides a shuttle to Dolonne, as does another 4-star, Gran Baita Hotel & Wellness which is even further out but it has a heated, half-indoor, half-outdoor, swimming pool.
Hotel Berthod is a good 3 star hotel in the centre of Courmayeur, about 10 minutes walk from the Courmayeur cable car and 15 minutes walk from the Dolonne bubble. Hotel Crampon (3 stars) and Hotel Cristallo (2 stars) are also similarly central. The 3 star, Hotel Bouton d’Or is on the north side of town but is highly rated and has a free shuttle bus to take guests to the Dolonne lift.
Out in Dolonne, there are two highly rated 3-star hotels within easy walking distance of the Dolonne lift and with ski-to-the-door access in good snow conditions: Hotel Des Glaciers and Hotel Lo Campagnar.
For guaranteed ski-in, ski out convenience, there is also the Super G hotel which is up the mountain at Plan Checrouit.
Entreves and La Palud
In Entreves, the 4-star Auberge De La Maison is within 350m of both the Val Veny lift and Helbronner SkyWay and well sited for quick access by car to Chamonix, so is particularly suitable for off-piste skiers who like to combine luxury with hard skiing. Also within walking distance of both the SkyWay and the Val Veny cable cars, are the 3-star Shatush Hotel and the 2-star Hotel Aiguille Noire. All are highly rated by previous guests.
One village further out in La Palud, the highly-rated 3-star Hotel Vallèe Blanche , the 3 star Hotel Locanda La Brenva, the 2 star hotel Funvia and the 2-star Chalet Joli are all just about within walking distance of the Skyway lift.
The ApartHotel block Residence Le Talus, near the centre of the resort, regularly gets good reviews. Towards the southern end of town, close to the main Courmayeur cable car, the Residence Le Grand Chalet is a former cinema that has been converted into self-catering apartments with an in-house wellness centre (it describes itself as a ‘Condo-Hotel’). It is also highly rated by previous guests.
