Accommodation in Private: Klosters
Klosters is known for its smart hotels and chalets but there is cheaper accommodation too. For a relatively small ski resort, Klosters is spread over a very large ski area. Its two lift stations, the Gotschnabahn and the Madrisabahn are over two kilometres apart, so check the location of your accommodation before booking.
Where to stay in Klosters
Klosters Platz
Strong keen skiers generally want to stay in Klosters Platz (often just called Klosters), preferably within walking distance of both the Gotschnabahn lift station and Klosters Platz railway station. The Gotschnabahn gives quick access to Parsenn, the largest and highest ski area, and should mean that you can also to ski back from Parsenn to close to your accommodation. Being near Klosters Platz railway station not only makes it easy to arrive/leave the resort, but also speeds up your journey to the ski areas around Davos, particularly Jakobshorn (get off at Davos Platz), Riverhorn (get off at Glaris) and Pischa (get off at Davos Dorf then take a bus).
Klosters Dorf
Klosters Dorf is quieter than Klosters Platz and possibly prettier too. It also has the quickest access to the Madrisa ski area, which is where the nursery slopes are, so can be the best option for families with small children learning to ski. There are free buses and trains between Klosters Dorf and Klosters Platz.
Selfranga
Selfranga is technically a separate village from Klosters, but the two villages have expanded so much that it’s not easy to tell when one stops and the other starts, and increasingly the name ‘Selfranga-Klosters’ is being used to describe the area to the south of the Davos Platz railway station. Selfranga, however also covers a large area, so whilst some parts of it are within walking of the Gotschnabhan, others are not, although they might be close to Schwarzseealp red piste which descends into the village from Parsenn.
Klosters Hotels
Luxury Hotels
Hotel Vereina is a very highly rated 5 star hotel with a famous gourmet restaurant. One star down from this, but arguably with more charm, are the Chesa Grischuna and the Alpina which are both excellent small boutique hotels. Other highly regarded 4 star hotels are the Sunstar Albeina which is in Klosters Dorf, the Piz Buin which is next to the Gotschnabahn lift, the centrally located Silvretta Park Hotel, and the Walserhof which has a restaurant that’s won Michelin stars.
Mid-range Hotels
Klosters actually has more mid-range hotels than luxury ones. Among the best, are the Sport-Lodge, the Hotel Sport, the Steinbock, the Madrisa Lodge, the Silvapina and the Wynegg. You can also stay up the mountain as some of the mountain restaurants, like the Erezsäss Hütte near the Schifer lift on Parsenn have rooms.
B&Bs, Chalets and Apartments
Most of the accommodation in Klosters is in apartments and chalets rather than hotels.
