Getting to Belleayre
Belleayre is one of the best day trip options for New York City skiers.
Although Belleayre is a little farther drive than many Pennsylvania ski resorts, its high base and summit elevations combined with nearly three times the natural snowfall of Pocono ski areas create conditions that are akin to New England. The extra drive time is definitely worth it for skiers whose first priority is top flight conditions, moguls or glades.
Belleyare is a 2 – 2.5 hour drive from the New York City metro area. Take the New York State Thruway to Kingston (Exit 19). Belleayre is 30 miles west directly off NY-28. NY-28 is generally well-maintained even in winter conditions so 4WD is not required, but is helpful if snow is in the forecast.
There is no rail service. Bus service from Manhattan is available through Trailways of New York. Busses leave from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. There is no additional charge for bringing skis or snowboards, but either must be in a zippered bag.
