Obergurgl is easy to get to. The nearest airport is Innsbruck and transfers to the resort take about 90 minutes by private transfer or rental car. There is also a slower but cheaper bus service from Innsbruck airport. The nearest train station to Obergurgl is at Otztal, about 45 minutes’ drive away.

Getting to Obergurgl by Rail

The nearest train station is about 45 minutes’ drive down the valley at Ötztal (“Ötztal Bahnhof”). It has services from other Austrian and central European cities including Innsbruck, although if you’re coming from Innsbruck Airport you will first have to get a bus or a taxi to Innsbruck train station (about a 15 minute bus ride).

The quickest way to get  from Ötztal Bahnhof to Obergurgl or Hochgurgl is by private transfer/taxi (about 45 minutes). You can book these online through Ski-Lifts. Alternatively the Postbus service runs throughout the day – about eight buses daily – and journey times from Ötztal are between 60-80 minutes.

Driving to Obergurgl

The route on leaving Innsbruck airport is to travel west on the B171 to the A12 motorway, the n follow signs for Imst and continue along the A12 for about 40 km then take the Haiming/Ötztal exit and follow the B186 for around 50 km through Solden to Obergurgl.

The journey from Salzburg airport is 276km and from Munich airport 310 km, and takes around three hours. The best route is to follow the motorway south to Kufstein and then the A12 motorway as far as the Haiming/Otztal exit, then the B186 as above.

An obligatory road toll permit is required to drive on Austria´s motorways and if renting a car in Austria the motorway toll permit sticker should be included. Otherwise, permits are available at every petrol station.
