Getting to Grindelwald

Grindelwald is the only one of the Jungfrau ski resorts you can drive to. Bern is the closest airport but Zurich, Basel and Geneva Airports (in that order) are alternatives and have many more flights. Transfer to the resort is by hire car, train or private transfer. Parking in the resort is limited.

The nearest airport is Bern but it has very few international flights. Therefore the main gateway airport is Zurich airport, which is about 2 hours drive away. Basel Airport (or “EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg” to give it its full name), and Geneva airports are slightly further away.

Getting to Grindelwald by Rail

There are train terminals in the airports at Zurich airport and Geneva Airport with fast intercity rail services to Bern where you need to change trains and catch the special train service to Interlaken Ost then change again for the regional train service to Grindelwald. It’s a scenic journey.

There’s no rail terminal at Bern Airport or Basel-Mulhouse Airport, so if flying into these you must first take the bus or a taxi to the railway station in the city.

Driving to Grindelwald 

Driving from the airports is relatively easy with fast motorway toll roads from Zurich – Luzern – Interlaken and from Geneva – Bern – Interlaken. Parking in Grindelwald is very limited, however, so check with your accommodation that this is provided.
