Getting to St. Johann in Tirol by Rail

With direct trains to all the major cities in the region, St. Johann is relatively easy to access by public transport.

Salzburg – direct trains from Salzburg main station to St. Johann take around 2 hours 30 minutes. Buses connect to the airport from the main stations in Salzburg – check the OBB Route Planner for details. However, it can be quicker to get the bus all the way to the airport – with a change at Lofer this takes around an hour and a half in total.

Innsbruck – direct trains run from Innsbruck main station to St. Johann and take just under 2 hours. To connect to the airport take Bus F, which takes around 15 minutes.

Munich – trains from Munich take up to 3 hours and involve a change at Worgl. Trains run regularly from the airport to Munchen Ost and take around half an hour.

Driving to St. Johann in Tirol

St. Johann is easily accessible by car, and there are a number of nearby attractions which are convenient to visit by car, including the charming, historic town of Kitzbuhel, the numerous villages of the Schneewinkel and SkiWelt areas and the magnificent Stanglwirt Hotel.

Salzburg airport – 63km from St. Johann – Leave the airport and take the B1 towards the German border, continue onto the B21 passing through Bad Reichenhall. Stay on the B21 for around 23 km as far as the German/Austrian border. At the border this continues on to the B173, signposted towards Sankt Johann in Tirol for approximately 37km.

Innsbruck airport – 98km from St. Johann – Leave the airport and follow signs for Salzburg/G?tzens/V?ls E60/A12/A13, staying on the A12 for approximately 60km to W?rgl Ost exit 17. Take the B178, sign-posted Brixental/Sankt Johann in Tirol for around 32km, then merge onto the B164 and follow into St. Johann.

Munich airport – 162km from St. Johann – Leave the airport and follow M?nchen / A9 then A99/A8 sign-posted Salzburg / Innsbruck. At the exit 101 Dreieck Inntal, bear right and follow the A93/A12 to Innsbruck / Kufstein. Continue on the A12 until Kufstein exit 6, then take the B173 for around 11km. Bear left to merge onto the B178, continuing for 18km before merging onto the B164 and follow into St. Johann.
