The 5-acre Douglas Fir Resort has been catering to families since it began welcoming visitors to Banff in 1946 and is continually adding to their list of family friendly amenities. All 130 accommodation units feature full kitchens and most have wood-burning fireplaces. Unit types include studios, lofts, one-bedroom condos, one-bedroom loft condos, rustic and charming chalets, and large specialty suites. Our newest, 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom family suites were completed in December 2009 and can accommodate up to ten people! Balconies or patios with every unit allow you to step out for a breath of fresh air, or simply take in the peaceful views.

Now the rooms and suites at Douglas Fir Resort are even more family-friendly than ever. Keeping families entertained is easy at Douglas Fir Resort. The latest completed upgrades to Banff’s finest family accommodation include HDTV flat screen televisions, DVD players and “plug-and-play” panels in every living room. Now it’s easy for families to bring their favorite movies and connect their gaming consoles (Wii, Xbox, Playstation) to the TV. 

Douglas Fir Resort provides complimentary firewood, kindling, wireless internet access, standard in-room amenities, and daily maid service. All our rooms are fully air-conditioned. We also include complimentary, unlimited transportation on the Town of Banff shuttle bus system. 

In 1985, the Douglas Fir Resort opened up it’s now famous indoor water park, the only water park in Banff National Park. Guests of the Douglas Fir Resort enjoy free access to two giant indoor waterslides, children’s splash pool, Jacuzzi and steam room. Ensuring that that parents and grandparents get a break too, the Douglas Fir Resort opened their popular giant Playzone in 2005 with a variety of obstacles for children to enjoy including three speed slides, a huge climbing tree trunk and two storey’s of entertainment. 

Popular outdoor facilities include a playground, tennis court (summer), and shared picnic and barbecue areas. Watch out for the ever growing collection distinctive life-size wooden wildlife carvings, and for the realistic wildlife paintings by local artist Ralph Temple.
