Snowbasin
The Snowbasin Snowsports Learning Center ski school has more than 100 instructors and has packages specifically designed to suit skiers of any age, ability, style or gender!
The PSIA/AASI Certified ski school offers both private and group lessons, with the main group programmes divided up into four age groups. Skiers aged 18 and over will be placed in adult group lessons; there are teen group lessons for 13-17 year olds and youth group lessons for 7-12 year olds; while there are dedicated Grizzly Kids lessons for children aged 5 or 6.
Grizzly Kids
Unlike other group lessons, the Grizzly Kids lessons include a free ski pass, with half-day and full-day packages available. There are dedicated ski instructors who will teach the chilren the basics of skiing in the Wildflower Meadow area – a large gentle slope fenced off from the rest of the ski area featuring a number of child friendly features such as bright tunnels, arches, wild animal replicas and an elephant slide. Children enrolled in Grizzly Kids lessons may also progress on to the terrain served by the Powder Puff Express Magic Carpet and the Littlecat chairlift once the instructors are confident that they have mastered the basics.
Specialist Tuition
In addition to dedicated tuition for children, the Snowbasin Snowsports Learning Centre has a number of specialist packages. NASTAR tuition is available for skiers wishing to improve their racing skills, there are Snow Divas workshops which provide tuition by women for women, while the Dawn Patrol groups are specifically for skiers aged 65 and over.
As you might expect from this family friendly resort, Snowbasin also has a number of packages designed to appeal to ‘never-ever’ skiers who are taking to the slopes for the first time. During the latter half of the 2009/10 season, Snowbasin offered the Spring Snowsports Sampler, giving novice skiers and boarders a two hour beginners’ lesson, ski rentals and a pass for the Littlecat chairlift for only $39.
Snowbasin Ski Hire
The Grizzly Center Rental Shop is the most convenient place to rent equipment at Snowbasin. Situated at the base area, there are more than 600 pairs of skis and plenty of snowboards available at the rental shop inside of the Grizzly Center. Adult skiers have a choice of basic, performance and demo packages, while boarders have a choice of basic and demo packages. Prices also vary according to age, with different options for kids aged 6 and under, children aged between 6 and 12, and adults aged 13 or over. It is not only snowboards and skis which are available to rent from the Grizzly Center, however, with rentals also available for activities such as snowblading, Nordic Skiing and snowshoeing.
