Trapp Family Lodge Stowe
Trapp Family Lodge, StoweStay in the hotel run by the Von Trapp family. Made famous by the Sound of Music, the Von Trapps have run this upscale Austrian-inspired lodge since escaping Nazi-occupied Austria and arriving in Stowe in 1942.
The Trapp Family Lodge is an authentic Austrian ski lodge in the heart of the Green Mountains. It goes without saying that all the little details which so often escape other imitators of the European style are perfect at the Trapp Family Lodge. The Von Trapp family weren’t imitating anything; they were the real deal and the authenticity of the hotel is truly noteworthy.
Rooms at the historic Trapp Family Lodge are European-styled with light woods, white walls and lightly colored floral accents. The guest rooms boast long views out across the valley. Inside the main lodge is a warm living room perfect for fireside reading, a library a game room. The are 3 on-site restaurants featuring Austrian and local cuisine.
The Trapp Family Lodge has its own cross country ski center on site, making it a popular choice with those who enjoy both downhill skiing at Stowe ski resort and nordic skiing just feet from the lodge. The hotel also offers 3 swimming pools, including a large indoor pool open year round (pictured at right). An outdoor hot tub with views of the Green Mountains is open year round. The village of Stowe is just a 2 minute drive.
The hotel does not provide its own shuttle service to the Stowe ski area, but the Mountain Shuttle does stop nearby. However, a car is still recommended.
