Getting to Sonnenkopf

Getting to Klosterle am Arlberg and the other Klostertal villages near the Sonnenkopf ski area is easy because they are  all very close to the S16 Arlberg motorway. Airport transfers take between 1 and 2 hours from Friedrichshafen, Innsbruck, Memmingen and Zurich Airports. Or come by rail: Langen am Arlberg’s train station is under 7km away from Sonnenkopf’s base station.

Nearest Airports to Sonnenkopf in Klostertal

Sonnenkopf in the Klostertal is easily reached from nearest airports Friedrichshafen, Innsbruck, Memmingen and Zurich, with fast road connections running from east to west along the valley and transfer times of under two hours. While Friedrichshafen airport in Germany is nearest, the majority of flights are from other airports in Germany, whereas Zurich has plenty of international flights.

Getting to Sonnenkopf in Klostertal by Rail

There are  train services from Innsbruck or Zurich direct to Langan am Arlberg (just 5 km from Klosterle). From Innsbruck airport, it’s a short bus ride or taxi to Innsbruck Bahnhof, then about one hour and 20 minutes by train from Innsbruck to Langan am Arlberg. If flying to Zurich, take a train from Zurich airport to the Hauptbahnhof then it’s about 2 hours 20 minutes or more by fast train from Zurich Hbf to Langan am Arlberg.

Local Bus Services for Klostertal and Sonnenkopf

There are about 20 buses a day between Stuben and Sonnenkopf and most of the buses stop at the main Klostertal villages (Klosterle, Wald am Arlberg and Danofen) as well as the Sonnenkopf base station and Langen train station. In Stuben the bus leaves from close to the Apres Post hotel. For details see Bus Route 90 www.stuben-arlberg.at/en/services/public-transport . You can change at either Stuben or Langen to take another bus onto Lech and Zurs.

St Anton is harder to reach by bus because there are only limited bus services from St Anton to Sonnenkopf, Stuben, Lech and Zurs. But you can take the train from Langen train station (about 10 mins by bus or taxi from Sonnenkopf lift station) to St Anton. There are about 10 trains a day – slow ones take 30 minutes whilst quick ones take under 10 minutes.

As well as connecting Sonnenkopf with Stuben, bus route 90 connects the main Klostertal accommodation centres (Wald am Arlberg, Danofen, Klosterle am Arlberg and Langen am Arlberg) with the Sonnenkopf base station. There are about 20 buses a day.

Driving to Sonnenkopf

If staying in Klosterle a car will be useful for getting from your accommodation to the ski lifts and for getting to St Anton (23 km from the Sonnenkopf lift), Lech-Z?rs (17-12km) and Stuben (8km).
