W VerbierThe modern 5-star W Verbier is located at the top of Verbier village, directly opposite Le Médran gondola, offering unrivalled access to Les 4 Vallees ski area. Contemporary interiors, stunning wellness centre and world class cuisine set the tone for this most stylish of hotels.
Having opened in 2013, the W Hotel is a stunningly designed and large luxury hotel offering first class service and facilities, just a stone’s throw from Le Médran gondola, which whisks you up into Les 4 Vallees ski area.
If ‘W’ stands for wow-factor then at very least Starwood Hotels has achieved that for its boutique W brand here in the Swiss Alps. And Verbier is probably the right place for them to have put a first boot in the snow, as it were. A row of traditionally shaped chalets linked by glass atria comprises the structure for this design extravaganza, all clad in aged timber with balconies under overhanging eaves. All this is very pleasing on the eye and so you need to get closer and go inside to get the full ‘W’ thing. We always applaud bold design in our hotel reviews so a big well done to the W Verbier. In truth not everyone will love this though. Some of the very contemporary common area spaces could be described as impersonal but ultimately it’s a matter of personal taste. They take less risks with the spa wellness area and the rooms, where a delightful combination of wood and stone creates a modern but somehow at the same time traditional feel, that is warm and very alpine.
Local wood and stone are sourced to furnish the rooms and suites, the result being spaces that are spectacular to look at and comfortable to relax in. A range of suites are on offer, all of which feature private en-suites, balconies, free WiFi, flat screen TV and seating areas. Some for example the E-WOW suite are fairly spectacular. There are also some very smart apartments.
The hotel has a number of bars and restaurants to unwind in, all of which offer a different vibe and atmosphere. Restaurant Arola with two Michelin stars has to be the pick of the restaurants, where Chef Sergi Arola serves Catalan influenced food with a Swiss twist, whilst the ‘Carve’ bar offers a very decent drinks list.
The absolutely stunning 800m2 wellness oasis is the perfect place to relax after a hard day out on the slopes, with an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, as well as aromatherapy and massage treatments on offer.
Parking is available on site at a cost of CHF45 per night/per car, including valet parking.
