Accommodation in Engelberg

Engelberg offers a good range of accommodations, along with an efficient free shuttle bus service connecting the town to the ski lifts for the two different ski areas. There is also accommodation within easy walking distance, and even some ski-in, ski-out options higher up the mountain. In the town, most hotels are 3-star, with luxury and budget choices also available. Additionally, there are many apartments suitable for self-catering holidays, including some luxurious ones.

Hotels in Engelberg

Engelberg offers a reasonable selection of hotels. The Hotel Waldegg has long had 4-star status, but is now joined in that grade by the handsome Bellevue Terminus, which has been upgraded from three stars, and is just as comfy, although it lacks the Waldegg’s spa and swimming pool.  Location-wise, the Waldegg is near the foot of the slopes for the Brunni ski area, but is on the wrong side of town for the Titlis/Trubsee ski area. Bellevue is opposite the railway station in the centre of the town and about a 10-minute walk from both lifts – a pleasant warm-up stroll for some, but too far for others.

If quick access to the Titlis/Trubsee ski area is all-important, and you don’t care about nightlife or luxuries or getting into town easily, the ski-in, ski-out Berghotel Trübsee, which is an ungraded mountain inn located one lift up the mountain and only reachable by cable-car, is a contender. Even more isolated but otherwise similar is the Bärghuis Jochpass, which is one mountain further away from Jochstock. Both have saunas.

A less extreme choice, but still handy for the Titlis/Trubsee ski area, is the Hotel Cathrin (3-star). It’s on the edge of town, about 100m from the lift base station, has a sauna and gym, and is well-liked by previous guests. The 3-star Hotel Bänklialp is almost as close, and it too has a sauna and good customer ratings. The Hotel Crystal and Hotel Belmont are also popular 3-star hotels that are within about a 5-minute walk of the lift and are about the same distance from the centre of town.

If you don’t mind commuting to the lift by bus, both the 3-star Alpenclub and the 3-star Hotel Garni Hostatt are well-liked by guests. The 3-star Hotel Hahnenblick is also a bus ride away from the Titlis lift, but well placed for the Brunni ski area (suitable for families).  If you want somewhere quieter and have a car, the Sporthotel Eienwäldli has an excellent spa for a 3-star hotel. It is on the very edge of the resort, but as it’s on the same side as the Titlis lift, it should only be a 3-minute commute each day.

At the budget end of the market, the following simple ungraded hotels and guesthouses are all popular with previous guests: Spannort Inn (central, near the train station about 600m from the Titlis lift); Hotel Espen (about 10 mins walk from the Titlis lift); and Gasthaus Schwand (up in the hills on the Brunni side but not close to the pistes; lovely views though).
