Apres Ski in Flumserberg

Flumserberg is not known for vibrant après-ski, far from it! The ski area primarily draws day visitors and weekend guests from Zurich and eastern Switzerland, and après-ski in the villages is lacking. Skiing is the main attraction.

Flumserberg Villages

Flumserberg is not a single resort, but a collection of small villages spread along the mountain road that climbs from the valley town of Flums to the ski area. Flumerserberg’s après-ski scene expands (as best it can) or contracts to reflect demand: busier and more lively during Swiss holiday periods and at weekends, but quieter mid-week, as well as earlier and later in the ski season. Understanding what each offers and what each lacks helps set realistic expectations for après-ski.

Tannenboden (1,400m) is the highest base area served by the SeeJet and the BergJet gondola lifts, and the closest thing Flumserberg has to a resort centre. In practice, a relatively small number of hotels and apartments, two INTERSPORT outlets, but few shops and amenities. The architecture is practical rather than picturesque, and after 7pm, it quietens significantly, with activity concentrated around a handful of hotel bars and restaurants (all within walking distance).

Tannenheim (1,160m) is another base area on the Flums side, built around the valley station of the Prodalp-Express gondola. Smaller and quieter than Tannenboden, with fewer hotels and apartments, an INTERSPORT branch, and a toboggan run, Tannenheim has one restaurant of note, Mätz Dine, and the Sonderbar, which holds occasional live music evenings. Otherwise, there is little to do once the lifts have closed. The PostBus stops here, making it easy to reach Flums in the evening.

Flums, down in the valley, is the nearest small town for an evening out. It offers a wider choice of restaurants, including Restaurant Sennenstube, a few bars, and basic shopping, and is 15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by PostBus from Tannenboden. While there’s no après-ski in the conventional sense, Flums is busier in the evening and offers a change of scene.

Mittenwald, midway between Tannenheim and Tannenboden; Unterterzen, beside Lake Walen at 425m; and Oberterzen, at the SeeJet gondola mid-station, are small villages with no après-ski or nightlife to speak of.

Bügellift Café Bar

The Bügellift is located on the main street at Tannenboden, next to the INTERSPORT village shop and directly opposite the beginner area. The bar’s contemporary, stylish interior, friendly service and good atmosphere are popular with locals and guests alike. The one drawback is the early closing time (9:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6:30pm on quieter days), which limits its après-ski potential, but it is pleasantly busy and worth visiting. New Goggeien Lodge Bar & Club

The bar at the New Goggeien Lodge is one of the few venues at Flumserberg that stays open until late. At peak holiday weekends, it delivers the closest thing the resort has to a lively après-ski atmosphere, with especially welcoming bar staff and a reliably sociable crowd. The bar offers the same menu as the Lodge’s Pizzeria Flumserberg, so food is available in the bar or at the Pizzeria next door. Slalom Bar

The Slalom Bar is the Hotel Tannenboden’s dedicated bar and events space, on the main street, 150m from the hotel itself. It hosts regular live music events and runs a weekly children’s cinema session (usually on Tuesday afternoons), details of which are available on the hotel’s events calendar. COLORS Bar

A large, modern self-service restaurant and separate bar at the BergJet gondola station on Tannenboden. Aptly named for its brightly coloured contemporary interior, the COLORS bar area has 56 seats, plus 146 in the restaurant and 140 on the terrace, with views toward the dedicated beginner zone. Hotel Restaurant Tannenboden

In our experience, the best restaurant in Tannenboden, serving regional cuisine of consistently good quality: Swiss classics executed well, with local ingredients and reasonable prices. The Tannenboden attracts a steady mix of hotel guests and non-residents, which keeps the atmosphere lively. Reservations recommended on busy weekends and during school holidays. Hotel Cristal Restaurants

The Hotel Cristal’s restaurant names – Churfirstenstube, Artenstübli & Chäs-stübli – are charming, and the offer: traditional Swiss dining rooms, fondue and raclette, sounds appealing. In practice, the Cristal’s restaurants are what you would expect from a solid, but unexceptional 3-star hotel: adequate food, good service, and an atmosphere that works when the resort is at capacity, and the room is full. Mid-week in quieter times, when the dining room is largely empty, the experience is notably less enjoyable. A reasonable fallback option when the Tannenboden restaurant is fully booked. Pizzeria Flumserberg at New Goggeien

A more affordable alternative to the hotel restaurants, and a livelier choice when the resort is busy, the Pizzeria Flumserberg’s stone-oven pizzas range from a classic Margherita to more substantial options alongside homemade pastas, salads, and desserts. Vegan mozzarella and gluten-free bases are available on request. The pizzeria shares its menu with the New Goggeien bar next door, so you can eat at the bar or move between the two freely. Restaurant Molseralp & Älpli Bar

The Berggasthaus Molseralp restaurant seats 120, but the main draw in the evening is its Älpli Bar – a rustic barn venue with an open fire where fondue, raclette, and hot stone evenings run on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with mulled wine and a traditional atmosphere. The Älpli Bar programme includes parties with live music throughout the season. One of the more characterful evening options at Tannenboden. Other Activities in Flumserberg

Flumersberg’s main attraction is skiing, but other winter sports are also available, principally cross-country skiing, tobogganing, and winter walking, with equipment hire available from INTERSPORT. Other occasional activities listed on the Flumserberg Tourism website include snowshoeing, dog sledging, paragliding, and sometimes ice skating.

Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country ski trails at Flumserberg include 5km of classic cross-country trails and 15km of skating trails for all ability levels, including 9km at Tannenboden, 5km mid-mountain and 6km at higher elevations.

Tobogganing

The main toboggan route is the 3km Prodalp-to-Tannenheim run, which starts next to Prodalp mountain restaurant, and is easily accessible via the Prodalp-Express gondola. Conditions vary depending on the time of day, the number of visitors, and snow conditions. With a “medium-difficulty” rating, the run is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, but there are also easy children’s toboggan slopes at Prodalp and Tannenboden.

Winter Walking

Flumersberg’s 35km of winter walking paths connect Tannenboden, Mittenwald, and Tannenheim. Well-signposted and easy to access, they offer hikers scenic views of Spitzmeilen, the Churfirsten mountains, and Lake Walensee, as well as easy access to mountain restaurants for refreshments en route.
