The Flumserberg ski lift network comprises 22 lifts, including gondolas, fast chairlifts, and surface lifts, serving 65km of pistes, with a total capacity of over 32,242 riders per hour. Queues are rarely an issue outside peak Swiss school holiday weeks.

Flumserberg Ski Lifts

Flumserberg’s lift system comprises 22 installations that connect the base areas at Tannenheim (1,228m) and Tannenboden (1,400m), providing lift access to the ski area from Unterterzen (425m).

The lift system is well-engineered for its size: modern high-capacity gondolas efficiently handle the main access and altitude gain, and the chairlifts distribute skiers effectively across the mid- and upper sectors.

Gondolas

The gondolas form the backbone of the lift system. The SeeJet (a two-stage gondola) connects Unterterzen on the valley floor (425m) to Tannenboden (1,400m), making train-to-ski transfers seamless.

The SeeJet gondola valley station is directly opposite the train station in Unterterzen (425m) and rises seamlessly via Oberterzen (without having to exit the gondola) to Tannenboden. It’s just a short walk to the BergJet gondola at Tannenboden, and upwards to Maschgenkamm (2,020m) – superb lift access for skiers arriving by train from Zurich or Chur.

The BergJet, an 8-seat gondola installed in 2019, climbs from Tannenboden to the Maschgenkamm summit station at 2,020m and is the primary route to the mountain’s highest terrain. The Prodalp-Express, a 12-person gondola departing from Tannenheim, serves the Prodalp mid-mountain hub at 1,576m independently.

Additionally, PostBus Line 441 connects Flums railway station with the gondola stations at Tannanheim and Tannenboden, running every 30 minutes during the ski season – a useful option for those arriving by train or staying in Flums. For more information, see How to Get to Flumserberg.

Chairlifts

Four of the eight chairlifts are high-speed (detachable), and three of these, the Prodkamm chairlift (the first 8-seater chairlift built in Switzerland), the Leist (6-person) chairlift, and the Panüöl chairlift, are equipped with bubble covers.

Drag Lifts & Beginner Lifts

The lower mountain between Tannenboden and Mittenwald is served by drag lifts and a rope tow, giving beginner skiers access to easy blue runs without needing to use the main gondola network. Three Sunkid moving carpet lifts serve the enclosed free practice areas at Tannenboden and Prodalp, providing a safe, traffic-free introduction for novices and young children. Flumserberg Lift Operating Hours

The main gondolas (SeeJet, BergJet, Prodalp-Express) typically operate from 8:00am, with the upper-mountain chairlifts opening shortly thereafter. Last lifts are generally between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, depending on the lift and the time of the season. Queues are rarely an issue outside peak Swiss school holiday weeks.

Night skiing is offered on selected evenings (typically Friday nights in the ChrüzChrüzor at Tannenboden) as part of the weekly ski festival.

Flumserberg Ski Lift Passes

Flumserberg uses a flexible free-choice ticketing system, allowing skiers to select the specific days they wish to ski.

Day pass options include lift tickets for a full day, from 11am or from 1pm, and multi-day ski passes are offered from one and a half days up to 14 days, with discounts of 20% for youths (16-19 years) and 50% for children (6-15 years). Children’s passes also include a complimentary voucher (CHF 5) redeemable at participating mountain restaurants.

A beginner-specific day ticket provides access to the entry-level lifts at a reduced price and is suitable for those using only the lower mountain nursery area. A separate lift ticket is required for night skiing in the Flumserberg Galaxie (a colourful spectacle of vibrant lights and special effects), which takes place on the ChruzChrüze down to Tannenboden on Friday nights from around 26 December until early March.

Flumserberg Snow Record & Snowmaking

Flumserberg’s mostly north-facing ski slopes typically offer reliable snow conditions from December to April. The highest and lowest recorded snowfall in the last 10 years was 625cm in 2020/21 and just 97cm in 2022/23, with a 10-year average total snowfall of 331cm. The most reliable month for snow is January, with heavy snowfall often extending into February. Snow depth on the mountain can reach 150-170cm and is generally not less than 60cm.

Natural snowfall is supplemented by a modern snowmaking system, including 69 snow cannons covering 30% of the slopes, ensuring the resort can operate from late-November to early-April. Hence, the lower, more sun-exposed areas are well covered, and the lower-valley runs can be kept open even during periods of low snowfall.

Sustainability at Flumserberg

Flumserberg has a strong focus on renewable energy and sustainability. Recent initiatives include testing the “Husky Emotion” (the first electric-powered, emission-free snow groomer in Switzerland) to reduce the high emissions associated with slope preparation, ongoing studies to harness wind power, the integration of electric vehicles as part of the resort’s long-term commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, and the BergJet gondola’s PV (photovoltaic) system converts sunlight into energy. Also, easy rail access from Zurich (and a 20-minute gondola ride from the train station) helps reduce the need for day visitors to arrive by car.
