Accommodation in Pizol

Where Best to Stay in Pizol?

Whether you stay in Bad Ragaz, Wangs or on the mountain in Pizol is really a choice between three different holiday experiences on the same mountain.

Staying in Bad Ragaz

Bad Ragaz is a small Swiss spa town with accommodation ranging from the five-star luxury Grand Resort to comfortable mid-range hotels, a direct train connection to Zurich, a small, town centre with relatively few bars, restaurants and shops. The highlight is the Tamina Therme and the Grand Resort anchoring everything with its restaurants, bars and casino.

Arguably, Bad Ragaz is the better base for first-time visitors, anyone combining skiing with spa or wellness, couples looking for a destination beyond skiing, and families who want varied evening options. The main drawback is that you are committed to the Bad Ragaz gondola side of the mountain each morning — good for beginner and intermediate pistes, but less vertical than the Wangs side.

Staying in Wangs

Wangs is a more residential village sitting directly at the foot of the main gondola, and quitter still. The accommodation offering is primarily apartments, guesthouses and a handful of mountain hotels — but if skiing is the primary purpose of the trip and you want to step out of the door onto the gondola, Wangs has the edge. Evenings are peaceful rather than animated; those wanting something a little livelier after skiing will find themselves driving or taking the bus to Bad Ragaz.

Staying on the mountain in Pizol

A small number of hotels and apartments at Pardiel, Gaffia and Furt provide a genuine ski-in/ski-out option for those who want to be immersed in the mountain rather than the town. Some of these are “Gruppenhotels” targeting families and groups with budget rooms and dormitory-rooms offering half-board terms.

Best Hotels in Bad Ragaz

Bad Ragaz hotels range from world-renowned, luxuriously high-end (and expensive) 5-star resort hotels to budget-to-mid-price hotels near the centre of the town.

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz (5-star)

The Grand Resort is the defining address in Bad Ragaz — a one-of-a-kind combination of two five-star hotels, a world-class spa, and some of the finest dining in eastern Switzerland.

The Grand Resort comprises the Grand Hotel Quellenhof & Spa Suites and the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, together offering 233 luxurious rooms and suites. Seven restaurants carry a combined 76 GaultMillau points and six Michelin stars; direct access to the Tamina Therme is a significant perk for ski guests who want to move seamlessly from slopes to spa without getting in a car. The casino is on-site.

The Bad Ragaz train station is a ten-minute walk away, and the resort offers its own transfer service for guests arriving by rail. For a 5-star luxury ski, spa and gourmet experience within an hour of Zurich it is genuinely hard to match. Address: Grand Resort, Bernhard-Simonstrasse 20, CH-7310 Bad Ragaz.

Palais Bad Ragaz (5-star)

For those who want something even more intimate than the main Grand Resort, the Palais Bad Ragaz occupies its own distinct wing of the resort complex and represents perhaps the most historically compelling place to stay in the entire area.

Palais Bad Ragaz

The building itself dates from 1774, when Abbot Benedikt Bochsler constructed it as the governor’s offices of the Pfäfers monastery — making it the oldest building within the Grand Resort and a listed heritage structure. Today it is a Relais & Châteaux property with just 14 rooms and suites, where the scale is deliberately boutique and the atmosphere is one of refined calm rather than resort bustle.

Palais Suites have separate living rooms and bedrooms, with noble stucco ceilings and period details that no amount of contemporary interior design can replicate. Dining within the Palais is anchored by IGNIV by Andreas Caminada — one of Switzerland’s most celebrated chefs — alongside the Zollstube for a more informal Swiss experience. Guests have full access to the wider Grand Resort facilities, including the Tamina Therme. Address: Palais Bad Ragaz, Bernhard-Simonstrasse 20, CH-7310 Bad Ragaz.

The hotel provides ski storage and a ski shuttle service, which removes one of the minor logistical headaches of staying in the town. Address: Sorrell Hotel Tamina, Am Pl. 3, CH-7310 Bad Ragaz.

Hotel Schloss Ragaz (3-star)

Hotel Schloss Ragaz is an impressive historic castle set within its own park on the outskirts of Bad Ragaz, directly adjacent to the golf course and approximately 200 m from the Tamina Therme. As a member of the Relais du Silence chain, the hotel makes a point of its peaceful setting and unhurried atmosphere, which makes it a particularly good fit for guests combining skiing with genuine rest and recovery.

Guest accommodation includes traditionally furnished rooms in the historic castle building and brighter garden Pavilion rooms surrounded by parkland, and glamping lodges for those wanting something more individual. Guest rooms in the castle are fine for a short stay but need renovating and updating.

The hotel has its own wellness area, the 300 m² Relax.Oase — Finnish sauna, steam room, hot tub, massage showers, and an outdoor pool (in summer) — and the Chutnee Restaurant offers an unusual combination of European specialities and authentic Indian cuisine. Discounted Tamina Therme day tickets are available directly from the hotel. Address: Hotel Schloss Ragaz, Schloss-Strasse 1, CH-7310 Bad Ragaz.

Self-catering Apartments in Wangs

Several privately-owned holiday apartments are available in Wangs village through Booking.com and other booking platforms. These suit independent travellers and returning visitors who know the area well and prefer the flexibility of self-catering. The village is small and quiet; grocery shopping requires a short drive to Sargans or Bad Ragaz.

Ski-in / Ski-out Accommodation in Pizol

Ski-in/ski-out accommodation on both sides of the Pizol ski includes a few hotels, guesthouses and Gruppenhotels targeting larger groups. Also some small and cute triangular huts, which are privately owned, but sometimes rented-out.

Berghotel Gaffia

The Gaffia combines rustic alpine atmosphere with genuinely good food and a thoughtful wine list, making it far more than a mountain refuge. Fondue evenings run every Friday from 18:00, and the Gaffia hosts Saturday après-ski events that are among the liveliest moments in the weekly resort calendar. Staying here removes all logistical friction from the ski day and puts you on the mountain from first light to last.

Other ski-in/ski-out options on the Wangside at Furt (1,522 m)include Berghotel Furt (with a gourmet restaurant), and the Berggasthaus Zanuz on the Bad Ragaz at Pardiel (1,633 m). Also the Edelweiss holiday apartments at Pardiel.

With the exception of the Berghotel Furt, which includes a gourmet restaurant, most of the on-mountain accommodation in Pizol is simple, functional and convenient — an affordable choice for groups or families wanting to make the absolute most of early morning snow conditions.

Heidiland Ski Package

If you stay two or more nights in the Berghotel Gaffia, Berggasthaus Zanuz or in a vacation apartment in the Panoramarestaurant Edelweiss, the Heidiland ski package includes your ski ticket with your overnight stay.
