Apres-ski in Pizol Bad Ragaz Wangs is varied, but mostly quiet and relaxing, especially mid-week and outside of the main holiday periods, but at weekends and in peak season it gets busier and more lively. 

Bad Ragaz Town and Wangs Village

Bad Ragaz is a relaxed, small Swiss spa town that has been drawing visitors to its thermal springs for over 800 years. It is small enough to feel unhurried but well-appointed enough to keep evenings interesting across a week’s stay. While the Grand Resort is its flagship — luxury hotels, seven restaurants, four bars, a casino and the Tamina Therme — the town also has independent restaurants, a handful of bars, and a streetscape that rewards an evening stroll, but it’s mostly quiet in the evenings and the best après-ski atmosphere is on the mountain at Gaffia and Munghutte.

Unlike bigger and better known Swiss ski resorts, Bad Ragaz is not for partying late in the evening. There is no roaring après-ski scene, and no bars thumping music until the early hours. What Bad Ragaz offers instead is quality and calm — excellent food, a world-class spa, good wine, and a pace that suits those who ski hard by day and want to recover well by night.

Wangs is smaller and quieter still — a working village close to a gondola station with just a handful of local amenities, and primarily a drive-through point for visitors heading to the mountain. Most guests staying in Wangs make the short drive or bus journey to Bad Ragaz for evening dining and activities.

Berghotel Gaffia (on-mountain)

The Gaffia, at 1,750m on the Wangs side, is the liveliest spot on the mountain for end-of-day drinks, and its Saturday evening après-ski events draw regulars from across the region. The rustic stone interior and direct piste access make it a natural gathering point as the lifts wind down — a vin chaud or Obstler here, with the Wangs valley spread out below, is genuinely one of the better après-ski moments in eastern Switzerland. Mugghütte (on-mountain)

Slightly above the Gaffia, the Mugghütte at 1,750 m hosts Saturday afternoon parties with a sun terrace and Rhine Valley panorama. Thomsn’s National Pub

Thomsn’s National Pub (N’Pub) is the closest thing to a traditional pub in Bad Ragaz — casual, unpretentious and well-placed for a drink before dinner. Also for pub food such as Tarte Flambeé (similar to pizza), salads, French fries and fish and chips. Lattmann’s Bar & Lounge

Also in Bad Ragaz, Lattmann’s Bar & Lounge has a decent wine list, a cigar menu and a walk-in humidor, and comfortable leather armchairs for relaxing over a cocktail or a glass of wine before or after dinner. The Hof Bar at Grand Resort

For upscale après-ski in a 5-star setting, Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is just over 1 km from the centre of town, and though it skews towards the resort’s hotel guests, it is open to all. It features four distinctive bars (as well as several restaurants) with a smart casual dress code.

The Hof Bar at the Grand Resort is the best option for après-ski cocktails. The team mixes serious drinks — high-quality whiskies, rums and well-crafted cocktails — in a sophisticated setting with live music nights through the winter season. Golden Wave Bar at Casino Bad Ragaz

The Grand Resort’s casino is one of the few casinos operating in the Heidiland region and the casino’s Golden Wave Bar carries an impressive 140 varieties of gin from 34 countries, including Swiss producers, but first and foremost, it’s a casino. Restaurants in Pizol, Bad Ragaz, Wangs

Bad Ragaz has a disproportionately strong restaurant scene for a small town, anchored by the Grand Resort but extending meaningfully beyond it, including the gourmet Rössli, family-friendly Central, the popular From Heaven and the Falkinis restaurant.

Grand Resort Restaurants

With as many as seven restaurants a combined total of 76 GaultMillau points and six Michelin stars, the Grand Resort is perfect for gourmet dining.

Grand Resort’s culinary centrepiece is Chef Sven Wassmer’s Memories (Michelin three-stars / 18 GaultMillau points) – one of the finest restaurants in eastern Switzerland. A multi-course tasting menu with wine pairings is the core format and costs around CHF 250 per head. Despite the hefty price tag, advance booking is essential and recommended well ahead of the ski season.

Less pricey, is the Grand Resort’s IGNIV by Andreas Caminada (Michelin two-stars / 17 GaultMillau p0ints), and Verve by Sven (Michelin one-star / 15 GaultMillau points) with dishes from CHF 30 to CHF 50.

More affordable and offering a more characterfully Swiss atmosphere, the unpretentious Zollstube (88 Falstaff points) serves classic Swiss dishes and regional specialities with main courses costing CHF 20-40. The  Olives dʼOr (Mediterranean) and Namun (pan-Asian) restaurants will be refurbished and reimagined in the summer of 2026.

Hotel Restaurant Rössli

The Rössli is the standout independent restaurant in Bad Ragaz and a reliable benchmark for the town’s quality beyond the Grand Resort.

Michelin-listed and awarded 16 points by GaultMillau, it offers gourmet cooking, and an extensive wine list of 500+ wines. It’s more intimate and less expensive than the Grand Resort restaurants, but pricey nonetheless.

A la carte starters, soup and pasta dishes costing CHF 20-30+, main courses CHF 50-60+ and 3-6 course tasting menus with wine pairing ranging from CHF130-200+.  Great food, and well-reviewed, but not a family-friendly option. Restaurant Central

A family-friendly mid-price option that combines the best of Swiss and Italian cuisine, conveniently located in the centre of Bad Ragaz. The interior is welcoming year-round, and the garden terrace is an attraction in summer.

From Heaven

A popular cafe, tapas bar, and restaurant, From Heaven is located in one of the nicest buildings in Bad Ragaz – the former Hotel Bristol, dating back to 1905. Offering a good selection of starters, snacks, tapas and comfort food, and reasonably priced with dishes ranging from CHF 10-30, and a good wine list.

A fun place for brunch or for drinks with good atmosphere and sometimes hosting cultural events and live music. Restaurant Falknis

A warmly regarded hidden gem restaurant with a wood-panelled dining room, which exudes warmth and a welcoming atmosphere. The well-regarded menu features Mistkratzerli (a type of Swiss chicken), pork chops, and innovative Grisons specialties. Prices ranging from CHF 12-20 for starters to CHF 30-50 for main courses.

Other Activities in Pizol, Bad Ragaz, Wangs

As well as 50km of downhill skiing, Pizol and Bad Ragaz offer a range of other activities, the highlight of which is the Tamina Therme, which is among the best public spa and wellness experiences in the Swiss Alps.  Also, tobogganing, winter-hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and events throughout the season.

Tamina Therme Spa & Wellness

The Tamina Therme is the most compelling non-skiing reason to visit Bad Ragaz, and for many guests it is equally the point of the trip — a large variety of indoor and outdoor pools at varying temperatures, with water jet features, waterfalls, saunas and other areas designed for relaxation and active hydrotherapy.

The 8,600m² facility draws its water from a natural thermal spring in the Tamina Gorge, rising at a constant 36.5°C. The result is a thermal bathing experience with genuine geological and historical substance behind it, not a manufactured leisure pool.

A combined Ski & Spa 1-day pass is sold at the Pizol cable car ticket offices, making the transition from mountain to spa a single, an easily pre-planned part of the day rather than an afterthought. Tamina Therme is at its quietest mid-week; Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest periods.

Tobogganing & Night Skiing in Pizol

The toboggan run from Furt to Maienberg is 3.5 km long and, in good snow conditions, it can be extended down to the valley for a total of 6 km — one of the longest tobogganing runs in Eastern Switzerland. Night tobogganing operates on Fridays with the slope fully floodlit, and the combination night skiing and fondue in a mountain restaurant is great fun for families and groups.

Winter Hiking in Pizol

Five winter hiking trails traverse the Pizol mountain, varying in length and gradient and accessible from the gondola stations. The Pizol Panorama High Trail reaches 2,275 m and offers striking views of the mountain landscape, the Rhine Valley and on clear days to Lake Constance. Four hiking trails ranging from 0.4 km to 3.7 km (30 minutes to over an hour) and are rated “light” (easy), and only the Pardiel-Laufboden hiking trail – 3.3 km and nearly 600 m ascent (2 hours 30 minutes) – is rated difficult.

Snowshoeing in Pizol

Guided snowshoe hikes are bookable daily on the mountain, making this one of the more accessible activities for groups with varying interests. No prior experience is required, but the Pardiel-Laufboden snowshoe trail (2.8km, 2 hours 30 minutes and nearly 600 minutes vertical elevation is rated difficult. Cross-Country Skiing in Pizol

The Heidiland region around Bad Ragaz has a network of cross-country trails for all levels, from flat beginner loops to more challenging terrain for experienced Nordic skiers. Seven cross-country trails down in the valley depend on natural snow. and, therefore, usually open only in peak season.

Paragliding

Pizol is a popular destination for paragliding from two official launch sites in winter: Pizolhütte and Laufböden. Tandem flights with qualified paraglider pilots costing around CHF 180 for 15-20 minutes, can be booked through Chickenwings, Pizol Flying Group, and Flying School Pizol.
