Ski Lifts in Pizol

Pizol Ski Lifts system (14 lifts) includes two gondolas – Pizolbahn Bad Ragaz and Pizolbahn Wangs – one on each side of the ski area, four modern chairlifts, five T-bars and a magic carpet lift at Pardiel Kinderland. It has a total carrying capacity of nearly 18,000 riders per hour.

Pizol Ski Lifts

While the summit of Pizol mountain is 2,844m, the ski area serviced by lifts is mainly from 1,500m (Pardiel and Furt) up to 2,2250m. Higher-altitude slopes to Pizol are accessible to ski tourers and hikers.

Pizol Gondola Lifts

Both sides of the ski area (Bad Ragaz and Wangs) feature an 8-person gondola from the valley, and four chairlifts carry skiers from mid-mountain to the upper slopes between 1,522 m and 2,200m.

The gondola lifts operate between 8:15 am and 4:45 pm, and the chairlifts from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. Snow conditions permitting, the lifts are also open for night skiing on Fridays in Wangs, and on Saturdays in Bad Ragaz, from 6:00-10:30 pm.

For early risers, the Pizolbahn Bad Ragaz gondola operates a dedicated early-bird service (“Sunrise Skiing”) from 6:30 am to 7:00, giving those who want first tracks on freshly groomed pistes a genuine head start.

Chairlifts in Pizol

The Pardiel–Laufböden chairlift is the workhorse of the Bad Ragaz side, carrying skiers from Pardiel station up to Laufböden (2,226 m) and providing the primary access route to the upper runs and panoramic terrain.

The newest lift on the Bad Ragaz side is the Schwamm six-person chairlift — a modern, high-speed chair with heated, Porsche-designed seats — the most comfortable single lift on the mountain. Chairlifts on the Bad Ragaz side are fitted with weather protection covers — a practical touch that makes a welcome difference on cold or windy days.

On the Wangs’ side, the Furt–Gaffia and Gaffia–Pizolhütte 4-person chairlifts operate in tandem to carry skiers from Furt up through Gaffia and on towards the summit area, opening up the upper-mountain terrain and the Riderpark. The chairlifts on the Wang side are not equipped with bubble covers.

T-Bars and Conveyor Belts

Both sides of the ski area (Bad Ragaz and Wangs) are linked by the Pizolhütte-Laufböden T-bar lifts, which provide beginner-friendly uplift (in both directions) to get across from one side of the ski area to the other.

More T-bars serve beginner and secondary slopes, and the Rider Park above Furt. The SAC-Lift provides access to short blue runs below the Pizolhütte, and the Übungslift Prodboden and the Übungslift Furt serve the dedicated beginner practice areas at Pardiel and Furt, respectively.

Children and first-time beginners are especially well catered for by self-contained beginner zones and conveyor belts (with weather protection at Kinderland Pardiel), as well as the smaller children’s area at Furt.

Pizol Ski Lift Capacity

Fortunately, Pizol’s ski slopes are often uncrowded (mid-week especially). With each of the main lifts carrying up to 1,800 riders per hour, and a total lift capacity of nearly 18,000 riders per hour, queuing is generally not an issue. However, during peak morning hours (9-10 am), you may need to queue for the lift ticket office and the gondola, but the queues move quickly enough.

Buses from Bad Ragaz and Wangs to Pizolbahn Ski Lifts

From mid-December to early April, the 457 bus service provides a direct connection between Bad Ragaz and Pizolbahn Bad Ragaz valley station (4 km from Bad Ragaz) every 30-60 minutes during the day. A new timetable is expected to increase bus frequency for 2026/27. The 456 bus route is another option, but it is less direct.

If staying in Wangs or coming from Sargans, bus routes 429 and 430 run every 15-30 minutes between Sargans, Wangs and Pizolbahn Wangs lift station (0.5 km from Wangs). Bus travel between Bad Ragaz or Wangs and Pizolbahn lift stations is free of charge for ski pass holders.

Pizol Ski Lift Passes

Pizol ski lift passes can be bought at the valley station ticket offices or online. Buying your lift ticket online saves time. Discounts are available for children up to 15 years (50%), teenagers/students aged 16-19 (35%) and seniors 60+ (15%).

The Ski & Spa combined pass — a ski day with entry to the Bad Ragaz Tamina Therme — is sold at the cable car ticket offices and represents one of Pizol’s most distinctive value propositions. It is worth planning a spa afternoon mid-week when the therme is quietest.

Snow Conditions in Pizol

Pizol (Bad Ragaz/Wangs) is generally snow-sure with an average annual snowfall of around 400cm. While the upper slopes (above Pardiel and Gaffia) generally have snow depths of 50 cm or more (averaging 84 cm at 2,250m), early season conditions can vary, and the valley run to Wangs is often closed.

Pizol has invested heavily in its Snowmaking 4.0 Project to enhance sustainability and ensure reliable snow cover. Currently, 130 snow lances and around 250 snow cannons can cover 40% of the slopes with artificial snow to a depth of up to 60cm where needed. Ongoing investment will enable snowmaking from Gaffia to Maienberg and Pardiel to Schwamm by 2027/28.

February (the snowiest month) and March offer the best snow cover, and reliable natural snowfall is supported by extensive artificial snowmaking from early December to early April.

Pizol’s strong commitment to sustainability includes investing CHF 12.4 million in Snowmaking 4.0, a multi-year project focused on efficient, sustainable snowmaking to guarantee skiing from 1,000 to 2,250 meters.

Pizol’s sustainability initiatives include smart technology and precise snow-grooming data, such as the Leica iCON Alpine system on PRINOTH snow groomers, which maps snow depth and reduces both unnecessary snow production and energy consumption.
