A little off the main road through Lech at the foot of the Schlegelkopf, the 5-star Almhof Schneider is quietly positioned but still close enough to walk to the centre and the ski lifts or to ski from the front door. Owned by the Schneider family since the 15thcentury and run as a hotel since1929 the Almhof is a true Arlberg original.
A really stunning hotel built in traditional Vorarlberg chalet style with an interior that pays homage to its heritage, whilst at the same time celebrating a more modern interpretation of the use of natural materials from the region and of straightforward functional alpine design, well executed.
Alpine fir panelling, limestone and walnut are just some of these materials, crafted into exquisite form with excellent workmanship. This clever use of timber and stone, set with well chosen antique furniture, smart warm fabrics and open fire places, creates a calm elegance and a comfortable ambiance that make the Almhof so special.
Just 18 rooms and 35 suites represent the accommodation at the Almhof. All spacious and individually furnished and finished following the design ethos of the hotel. Some with balcony, all ensuite with wired internet (as well as Wi-fi throughout the hotel) and flatscreen TV and multi – media.
An American bar, two restaurants – ‘the Wunderkammer’ and ‘the Restaurant im Almhof Schneider’, make for a pleasant evening’s exploration of all that is fresh and good about contemporary alpine and Austrian cuisine.
From a stunning contemporary indoor pool to the steam bath or one of its saunas, the spa at the Almhof leaves little to be desired. A relaxation room, fully equipped gym, treatment rooms with two resident massage therapists complete the offering. Really delightful.
The Almhof surprises. Viewed first from the outside, you think you are going to get a traditional very comfortable Vorarlberg hotel. And you do but you get a lot more besides and all of it done with an understated style that is always the hallmark of real class.
