The compact brand new Aurelio Lech has set a new standard in contemporary alpine style and quiet sophistication, just on the slopes above the centre of Lech. An outstanding ski-in ski-out 5-star superior hotel presented in traditional wooden chalet form and then subtly tuned to the 21^st century.  In truth this is a boutique hotel with just 19 rooms and suites comprised in two buildings  – the hotel itself and ‘the Chalet’. Both can be rented en bloc for up to 16 people each, thus blurring the lines between the luxury chalet and boutique hotel markets. The service here is of the highest order and hardly surprising given the staff to guest ratio. All of this comes at a cost of course: there are cheaper places to stay even in Lech.

Rooms and suites are individually presented following the design ethos for the Aurelio Lech, that is to say respecting the alpine heritage of the Vorarlberg, whilst sympathetically and elegantly applying a contemporary focus to their furnishing and finishes. This modern alpine translation is very much the design vernacular of the moment, being seen in many new high-end developments in the best resorts in the Alps but none has done it better than the Aurelio.  All in all quite stunning and still totally comfortable, lest one lose sight of its principal purpose! And as well as every luxury you might expect to find at this level of accommodation, including a balcony with mountain views, all rooms are equipped with latest internet technology and multi-media entertainment systems.

16 Gault Millau points is reward and recognition for the efforts of chefs, Christian Rescher and Markus Niederwanger, whose team produce Austrian and international gourmet dishes for the Aurelio’s restaurant as well as for dining in the lounge and out on the sundeck overlooking Lech.

And as you would expect also the Aurelio takes its relaxation and fitness pretty seriously. A superb 23 metre indoor pool sets the tone for exquisitely presented contemporary leisure facilities, which include sauna cabins, salt steam rooms, herbal baths, vital sensory showers, a snow atrium and an extensively equipped gym.

The Aurelio fits a niche in Lech’s impressive 5-star accommodation firmament and in so doing it has taken alpine boutique hotel design and service to the next level.  And perhaps surprisingly, given all that, the Aurelio is also child friendly – lucky children!
